Springfield Offers Assistance To First-Time Home Buyers

The city of Springfield is trying to get more to move to the northside of town through a new program aimed at single parents and first-time home buyers.

It’s a 10-year-zero interest forgiveness loan. It helps first-time homeowners purchase homes.

Springfield’s loan officer Bob Jones says the city wants to increase the home ownership within in parts of Zones 1 and 2. It stretches from Grand Street north to I-44, and east to west from Glenstone to West Bypass. Some homeowners and landlords in the area say they’re excited to see some of these empty homes filled and the streets looking like neighborhoods again.

The city of Springfield is encouraging more people to move to the north side of town through a new program, a 10-year zero interest forgiveness loan, aimed at single parents and first-time home buyers. The city wants to increase the homeownership within parts of Zone 1 and 2. A lot of the older neighborhoods have turned into a lot of rentals and they would like to encourage more owners to buy the houses and live there. The program is financed with money from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development offering up to $5,000 to first time home buyers.

 

Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield in Springfield, MO

Wilson’s Creek is where the first major Civil War battle was fought west of the Mississippi River. It is also the site of the death of Nathaniel Lyon, the first Union general killed in action. Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield remains one of the six national parks in the state of Missouri that commemorate the Battle of Wilson Creek. It is a perfect stop for entertaining as well as an educational experience. The park has a 5-mile long self-guided automobile tour loop. There are eight stops at significant battle -related locations which gives access to walking trail. The visitor center has brochures about the self-guided tour of the battlefield.
